Top 10 States of the Uninsured

The Top 10 States Of The Uninsured

A study was done in 2009 by the North Carolina Institute of Medicine.  The study was done to calculate the dramatic increase in the uninsured rate.  The increase across the board was between 5% to 22% from 2007 to 2009.  Most states being in the double digits.

From the numbers provided I was able to determine the top 10 states where you will find the highest percentage of uninsured residents.  All percentages are percentages of non elderly (under 65)
 The results are:
                                   % Uninsured         Total
                                                            Uninsured
  1. Texas                       28%          6,240,000
  2. New Mexico            26%             470,000
  3. Florida                     25%          3,920,000
  4. California                 23%          7,700,000
  5. Nevada                    23%             570,000
  6. Arizona                    22%          1,300,000
  7. Louisiana                 22%              840,000
  8. Oklahoma                22%             720,000
  9. Georgia                    21%          1,880,000
  10. North Carolina         21%          1,750,000
The total shown on the study for all of the US is 19% that would include 52,000,000.  (Massachusetts numbers were not used in this study)

With this many uninsured all over there has to be someone close if it is not yourself that could use the benefit of a prescription discount card.  When faced with a prescription the only choice many have is to pay full price or just go without their medication.  The Community Outreach Program was put into place to help those that are in need and really anyone that has to pay fell price.  The best part is there are no income or age limits to use this card.  The card can be used over and over and one card can serve the whole family.  If you or anyone you know is uninsured print out a card and use it.  Drop it off at your neighbors house who just lost their job.  We may not be able to make a difference in the amount of people who are uninsured but we can give our self a break or make a difference in someones life.
